Many people who trained at the Monastic Academy (MAPLE) or its branch centers came seeking genuine practice — and left carrying harm they were not given space to name.

This website exists to give that space.

We collect and publish firsthand accounts from former residents, apprentices, and guests of MAPLE and its affiliated centers, which have operated under the nonprofit Center for Mindful Learning since 2011. Documented patterns include emotional, spiritual, and financial abuse, sexual harassment, and other forms of misconduct. Most of these experiences have never been made public — in part because people were isolated, discouraged from speaking, or feared retaliation.

In February 2023, a group of former members compiled these accounts and submitted them formally to MAPLE’s board of directors. The organization issued no formal response. We believe that public testimony is now both appropriate and necessary.

If you trained at MAPLE, OAK, CEDAR, or any affiliated center and have a story to share, we want to hear from you. Submissions can be published under your name, a pseudonym, or anonymously — your choice. All submissions are received with care.
